Water Catchments
Protection:
Kumbo Council made a project proposal to protect
some existing water catchments in the
municipality. In partnership with HELVETAS -
Cameroon, assistance has been given for water
catchments protection. Ten communities have
benefited from this assistance.
These include: the
Kitiwum,
Kikaikelaki, Kai, Meluf,
Melim, Mbuluf, Nzenshwai,
Njavnyuy, Tadu
and
Tobin.
This is because with the increasing difficulties
the council has been facing. The council then
decided to coordinate and assist the various
water schemes, by looking for funding and to
supervise the execution. With the assistance
from donors, Tobin in particular had two sources
identified. The ridging around the catchments
was done, fencing with barbwire, fire tracing,
and the planting of water shed trees. In all,
2.4 Million Francs was spent, with HELVETAS
sponsoring the highest. More than 1,000 trees
were planted around the catchment by the Tobin
community. |
