TRANSPORTATION FACILITIES
|
The only means of transport at
moment is by road. Township taxis and motorcycles play the role of
taxis. There are travel agencies with buses that often transport
people to various towns in the country. However, there is a fair
weather airstrip at Kikaikelaki that is occasionally used by the
Banso Baptist Hospital to transport patients, doctors, medical
supplies or their staff into and out of Kumbo. It is only fit for
small 4 to 6 seater planes. Helicopters that fly to Kumbo from time
to time use the various pitches available for landing and take off.
|
In Kumbo
the use of donkeys is still visible.
Some farmers find it cheaper to use donkeys to transport
their agricultural products from distant farms. All
they need to do is feed the donkeys well. The town
roads are untarred and cover over 123km2.
Much is being done by the council to improve on the
state of the farm to market and inter-quarter/village
roads. The council sees to it that these roads are
rehabilitated yearly.
It is
worth-noting here that the Kumbo Council is
presently examining the possibilities of tarring the
major roads within the town. This is mammoth project,
and we believe that if it is accomplished, Kumbo will
experience great developmental strides. In effect, we
are seeking assistance and funding for this Project. |
