ABOUT THE KUMBO MUNICIPALITY |

The population of Kumbo is mostly
made up of Christians. Generally Roman Catholics outnumber all the
other members of other churches Kumbo. About 70% of the population are
Christians, 25% Muslims and 5% others. Kumbo is the seat of the
Kumbo Diocese with the St Theresa’s Cathedral imposing itself in the
heart of the town. Nonetheless, the traditional Christian
denominations
present in Kumbo are: The Catholic, The Presbyterian, and The Baptist
denominations.
These 3 denominations have headquarters being: The Catholic
Cathedral - Kumbo, The Main Baptist Church - Kumbo, The Main
Presbyterian Church - Kumbo. These three denominations have made substantial investments in Kumbo
ranging from the construction of hospitals, schools and other
training institutions. With the catholic faithful, there is a
convent the seat of all Franciscan sisters in Cameroon, with
branches in some African countries. It is here that sisters wishing
to join this congregation are formed. There is also the presence of
a minor seminary to help train youths towards priesthood.
In terms of numbers, the Moslem Religion comes after the Christian
Religion. There are a good number of Mosques around the Kumbo
Municipality. The main Mosque is the . The Moslems are gradually
establishing institutions tied to the Moslem Religion, like the
Islamic High School - Kumbo and the Islamic Teachers Training School
- Kumbo.
It is worth-mentioning that the Traditional Religion is gradually
loosing grounds in Kumbo. Before the Christian Religion came to
Kumbo, ancestral worship and some other forms of Traditional
Religion prevailed in Kumbo. Today, only a very insignificant number
of the Kumbo indigenes still practice this.
