Two
years ago, the Kumbo Council under the leadership of Mayor Njong
Fonyuy Donatus initiated the “MAYOR'S
DAY”
on every Easter Monday. This is a day set aside
for the Mayor to reach out to the
underprivileged, such as the blind,
prisoners, orphanage and other handicapped
persons, with philanthropic gestures. |

When the Kumbo Council started this special day in 2005, it
was just the Integrated School for the Blind, Kumbo that received
charity gifts. But in the
following year, the Council included the Kumbo Principal Prisons. In
2007, the Mayor’s Day commemorated with an added touch with the
inclusion of the Shisong Catholic Orphanage and some 150 handicapped
persons based in Kumbo. At each stop, the persons concerned are
offered basic needs like food and clothing, according to the case at
hand. At the School for the Blind for example, in addition to some
basic needs offered, they were given brail paper, specific for their
needs. |
