Given
the importance of the Mbveh market to income generation,
the attention of the council was geared towards its
rehabilitation. The six entrances into this market have
been replaced, with fortified iron gates. The slaughter
slap was also rehabilitated. Okrika traders and
food sellers in the Mbah section of the market were
transferred into the market. |

THE TOBIN ULTRA MODERN
MARKET: |
|
|
With the
Assistance from the French Development Cooperation, the
Kumbo Council has also constructed
Tobin - Njavnyuy Modern
Market.
This remarkable project has considerably improved on the
economy of Kumbo given that the market is easily
accessed by thousands of villagers who come there to
market their respective goods. The market furthermore
flourishes because of the presence of the Motor Park,
with regular travellers who have to do shopping before
travelling. |

The
Tobin Ultra Modern Market
was
constructed in 2003 with the assistance of the French
Cooperation. It went operational in June 16, 2003. The
market comprises 144 sheds, 72 decent benches in the
well roofed raw food section, 8 double slabs for 16
butchers, a large section for livestock, and a travel
agency parks. |
|
This
project cost 157 Million, with the Kumbo Council’s
contribution in kind. The project was conceived to fight
poverty, as people are encouraged to take up sheds at
the market and start up one business activity or the
other. These sheds are rented out at give away rates,
ranging from 3,000 FCFA and 5,000 FCFA (for double
sheds). The market will serve the Tobin area given that
it is the Administrative headquarter of Kumbo. |

THE BAMKIKA-AI MARKET: |

Attached to the
BamikIka-ai Park,
is another temporal market - the
Bamkika-ai Market. The Kumbo Council
constructed it in 2003, following demands from the
population of that area. It is a daily market which
functions so well, thanks to the presence of the Motor
Park. This economic endeavour has sparked up numerous
job and business opportunities. |

THE KIMBO - SQUARES FOOD
MARKET: |
|
|
The
construction of the
Kimbo - Squares Food and Vegetable Market
in partnership with HELVETAS Cameroon, which was
inaugurated in April 6th 2005. The project
costs 22,500,000 FCFA, HELVETAS provided 10,000,000 FCFA
and the council the rest. The market was meant to assist
women who constitute about 95% of the food sellers in
the Squares market. |
|
These women sold their products under the rain during
the rainy season and under the scourging tropical sun in
the dry season, besides the obvious disorders and
misunderstandings. |
