KUMBO MUTUAL
HEALTH ORGANISATION
|
The Kumbo Council has
instituted a Mutual Solidarity Health Organization called the
Kumbo
Mutual health Organization that assists members to get quality
health care. The project went operational in November 2004, with
all administrative organs functioning. It takes care of 75% of
members’ hospitalization bills. It also takes care of outpatients
at 70% up to 15,000 FCFA. Membership now stands at 7050 making 1962
families. Since the inception of the project, 711 people who have
already benefited, costing, 15,605,267 FRS. This project has been
sponsored by the GTZ - Sante, in collaboration with the Kumbo Urban
Council. The outpatient care has already taken care of 132 members’
bills, costing 612,630 FCFA. There is a full coverage of
HIV/AIDS drugs and CD4 count tests of members for year, which started from March 1, 2007.
With the project in
place, there has been a high rate of hospital visits by members.
There has also been a reduction in social risks such as mortgaging
properties and other important valuables to pay bills. Reports
from service providers (hospitals) of this project say that there is
a quick recovery rate of members who are psychologically not worried
of paying high bills. As a solidarity fund, the scheme
encourages participatory health management, whereby each member
chips in a little for the development of the scheme. As a
consequence to all of that, the living standards of members has
improved. Read more about the Kumbo Mutual Health Organization on

BASIC PRINCIPLES OF
THE MUTUAL HEALTH FUND |
INPATIENTS CARES:
Inpatient cares are
hospitalization of more than two days, deliveries, and surgery.
-
Here the contribution is strictly
individual and is of 3,500 Frs per year.
-
But one can never enter the mutual
alone; you need to enter with your whole restricted family or
your association, but contribution is individual.
-
When we go to the hospital we will
have to pay 25% of the bill and the MHF will pay 75% to the
hospital.
-
Our Mutual is first of all a place
for solidarity because when my neighbour is sick, I am also
penalized.
