KUMBO  MODERN  BUTCHERY  and  FISHPOND

In a bid to eradicate extreme hunger, improve environmental sustainability, and increase council revenue, the Kumbo Council, in the elaboration of its Five-year Strategic Development Plan, 2002 - 2007, decided to construct a modern butchery worthy of an urban municipality. It is within this framework that the Kumbo Council designed a project to materialize this dream.

Working in collaboration with the Swiss Association for International Cooperation, (HELVETAS), through its Council Support Programme, the council submitted this project for co-financing by HELVETAS. This project costs 27,000,000 FCFA with HELVETAS contributing 20,000,000 FCFA, and the Kumbo Council contributing 7,000,000 FCFA.

THE FISHPOND  PROJECT

With the Objective of promoting and encouraging fish farming, the Kumbo Council in 2006, constructed a fishpond whereby 2000 fingerlings have been raised. This will serve as source of income for the Council when fish will being sold. Fish from the fishpond shall go to supplement the food needs (protein) of the population. HELVETAS financed the construction of a fishpond, worth 1,500,000 FCFA as a necessary component of this butchery project to effectively manage all biological waste from the butchery, without throwing away valuable wastes which could be used as fish food.
